Our Creative Vision

a portrait of the artist

Lucy Nebeker, a fifth-generation ranching native from the Utah-Idaho border, is a painter and filmmaker whose work reimagines the American West as a mythic construct. Through symbolic landscapes and archetypal figures, she distills the region’s geography, history, and folklore to examine its lasting cultural imprint.

After earning degrees in Visual Studies and Cognitive Science from the University of Pennsylvania, Lucy returned home to immerse herself in the folklore, history, and ideologies of the West. Lucy worked primarily in film, receiving grants and producer funding to create 5 narrative shorts exploring Western mythology. Now based between Brooklyn and Salt Lake City, Lucy’s practice has expanded to painting as she continues to interrogate Western frontierism —revealing the weight of its myths, the ghosts in its open spaces, the uneasy dream we’ve built around it.
